When the lust of I is in control our actions are selfish, when it’s not our actions are to please others. Just think how different our world would be if we all went around pleasing one another.
I was having a discussion with someone the other day and the topic of lust came up. One of the things discussed was lust manifesting in sexual behavior. Although lust is the core of acting on arisen desires, what most people don’t understand about it is acting on lustful desires is only arise to satisfy I. The nature of lust is selfish because when something is based to strictly satisfy self, it cuts off the flow of life. Unselfish loving energy is what keeps the flow of life active, without it life becomes like stagnant water. Nothing grows that promotes life when something is stagnate. Stagnant water promotes disease, decay, erosion, and so on, something that’s free flowing has the resources to promote an sustain life.
This is a key mistake in most relationships because a lot of the times the sex is based to strictly satisfy selfish lustful desires and if you’re not having sex to please your partner, then who is being please? This is the lust of I, but this isn’t only with sex, the lust of I manifest in so many ways, the lust for power, greed, hate, religion, social status, and the list goes on and on. Lust is very subtle, even when a person puts themselves down, the driven energy behind this is the lust for some made up perfection. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to have sex or wanting to better your situation in life, but at what cost does one pursue these desires? Please for the sake of yourself and humanity investigate this for yourself.
To me all lust starts out from the core of I, but it doesn’t have to be acted on from this core. Let’s say you’re passionate with your partner, obviously because it’s in our nature, one will become aroused, lust arises naturally, but where it goes from there is determined if one self seeks to fulfill their lustful desires or if one’s energy is directed to please their partner. It’s either or in most situations, so when the energy of the lust of I is in control, our actions are selfish, and when it’s not, our actions are to please others. Just think what a difference our world would be if we all went around pleasing one another.
