Thought Attachment

Thoughts are neither right or wrong, but there are some that are more reliable than others. If they’re observed and not attached to, the unreliable one’s will dissipate as a passing cloud.

Thoughts will come and thoughts will go, just as a passing cloud. If you’ve ever sat and observed a cloud, you would’ve noticed that the clouds just dissipate, here one minute and gone the next. It’s the same when our thoughts are observed, they arise there’s no denying that, but unless there’s attachment to them, they just dissipate. The question to ask yourself is, are the thoughts that are attached to reliable? This is a key factor in how one lives their life. Let’s say a thought to do something unhealthy arises, if one isn’t observing the reliability factor of this thought, attachment is the next step and the thought becomes an unhealthy action.

There’s just about no way to be in the thoughtless realm continuously, at least this has been my experience, so it’s more so to learn which thoughts are reliable to allow one’s life to be lived to the fullest. Here’s an example of thought attachment: Someone unknowingly cuts you off while you’re driving, fear arises as there’s almost an accident, most times the next thought is based in anger, from there attachment or non attachment determines the next course of action and the direction of one’s energy. If attachment is the norm, one’s life will be filled with unreliable thoughts because it’s what’s being cultivated. But if non attachment is the norm, life is much different because the unreliable thoughts aren’t being given energy and that in itself is reliable.

There’s so much contrast to these ways and if one’s thoughts aren’t observed, this won’t be noticed and unreliable thoughts will be more in control. This is because most minds are unconsciously defaulted to satisfy oneself and this doesn’t allow the objectivity one gets from observing their thoughts. So when thoughts aren’t observed, although they will still dissipate, as is their nature, there’s one right behind the other and it gets the mind gets cloudier and cloudier, so eventually there will be attachment and most likely it will be to an unreliable thought. Only with a settled mind can one’s thought be observed and the reliable ones be given the energy to allow one to live life to the fullest.
