Step Eleven – Inner Peace

Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our consciousness of Universal Love so knowledge becomes wisdom and our actions make us an example of that love in our relationships with all beings.

As long as one has some inner deficiency in place, there will always be the reaction of reaching outside oneself to fill it. And because of this, one shouldn’t be surprised by their lack of inner peace.

When we come to understand what will keep our heart open, so that love and compassion can be our normal mode of living, we will put our being in complete cooperation and harmony with Universal Love. By now this will be a conscious choice, but it still will not happen without cooperation and discipline, which manifest in the form of prayer and meditation.

Prayer is anything that is used to keep our heart open. We can kneel, we can chant, we can recite mantras and scriptures from a particular faith. We can do it in the morning, in the evening, on our lunch break, while driving our car, it can be done at any time in any place, it doesn’t matter. What does matter is that it comes from love, which will keep our heart open. Our Conditioned Mind Patterns will try to close our heart throughout the day, but if we want to stay in tune with our true source of power and Creative Potential, we must develop a practice that will stop the closing of our heart instantly. The more prayer is used to do this, the more love there will be as our minds default setting which will allow our Creative Energy to flow freely.

When there is a situation which activates a Conditioned Mind Pattern, either it will run its course or it will be stopped. The only way for it to be stopped is through awareness and a developed tool of deactivation. There are many forms of prayer that can be used for this. Taking a deep breath is one; using some scripture that has been memorized and has touched our heart in some way is another. Mantras are a good source to stop the Conditioned Mind. To me whatever is used to keep Universal Love as the energy we live our life by is a prayer. We need to find the best way to do this so we are always in harmony with life.

What of meditation, this is the foundation of all inner change. If the mind is not allowed to settle, what needs to be changed will never be known. If one is still being controlled by their thoughts and reaching outside themselves to satisfy their “I”, it’s because some inner deficiency is still creating the need to do this.

Meditation is the practice that will allow the discipline to not be controlled by the Conditioned Mind. If one is not practicing the necessary discipline to establish a settled mind, it will not be developed. If there’s no practice, there will be no change and one will continue to be a passenger of their conditioning by being controlled by their merry-go-round mind. With the application of these steps and meditation as a foundation, it will be possible to have the choice to change inward, but it will only occur if what one truly wants to do is get off the merry-go-round of the Conditioned Mind and experience a peace in life that passes all understanding, this peace is directly related to one’s practice, so it’s as simple as this: No practice – no peace: Know practice – know peace.
