Made a searching inventory of the self-centered behavior that kept us in bondage and isolated from our own innate goodness.
A spiritual path is more practical than it is mystical. It’s identifying and changing the behavior that keeps one from their own innate goodness by changing what you can within yourself.
Making a searching inventory of the self-centered behavior that kept us is bondage and isolated from our own innate goodness is the start of a lifelong practice. Self investigation is by far the most important practice that one will ever do in life. It puts the whole responsibility of life in one’s own hands. No longer does one have to remain unconscious to the way they react to life and the kicker is, it doesn’t take a miracle for this change to occur. But it will take an endless commitment of self investigation for one to become a benefit to all beings and that includes themselves; one’s willingness determines the degree of change. The change begins by taking an inventory of the things that block this commitment from being fulfilled.
Identifying behavior not conducive to spiritual growth teaches what causes the mind to become noisy in the first place. No one begins their existence with noise; it’s developed. What is it that makes one develop a noisy mind? Everyone is born in stillness, so what takes one’s mind out of this stillness? Noise comes from the development of a separate identity from the true Self to one’s I Self; the ego. It’s the fixation on outside solutions and the identity associated to them that gives rise to self-centered and addictive behavior. AGAIN: It’s the fixation on outside solutions and the identity associated to them that gives rise to self-centered and addictive behavior.
What exactly does it mean to be fixated on outside solutions? When existence begins for a person in this form they’re pure, innocent, and free; connected to everything, there’s nothing but love in their heart. The heart is as open as it will ever be, there’s nothing to close it. As we grow older, depending on the love that’s around us, our attachment to outside things becomes more and more prevalent and this is what closes our heart. The less love there is around us the more we will look outside our self for some form of fulfillment. Our development in life then becomes self-centered in nature and this does not allow what’s necessary for the development of our human manifestation to be in alignment with allowing our heart to remain open for our own innate goodness to arise.
Here’s an analogy: The true essence of water is always pure, regardless of how polluted it gets. The more pollutants that are added to the water, the more it’s true essence is hidden. Nothing needs to be added to the water to return it to its natural state of purity, the pollutants that made it impure in the first place need to be removed, nothing more. The nature of the water will always be pure regardless of how polluted it becomes, this never changes. So it is with us, our true nature will always be pure and it will always be based in love, but our pollutants must be removed for there to be awareness of the love that we are.
