To understand the freedom to be of the world and not in it can only occur when one learns to live with what’s given in life instead of from a view thats looking at what can be gotten from it.
One of the phrases that Jesus used that really stays with me is “To be in the world, not of it.” It is one that is repeated many times throughout the day as the Conditioned Mind constantly tries to pull me into the world. This is the view through the senses the Conditioned Mind uses to form attachment to the material world. It is not the view of what’s given, it is the view of constantly trying to arrange life the way one thinks it should be and taking it personal. Without attachment being in the world cannot occur.
The only way to be of the world and not controlled by it is to understand how this control occurs. It is a developed view through our senses that allows this to happens. We see a world that becomes personal and it pulls us right in. But life isn’t personal, it would happen even if there was no “you” here. When it is made personal, everything that happens happens to this you, but life doesn’t do this, the Conditioned Mind does this. Nothing happens to “you” unless you alone attaches to it.
When one is with what’s given in life, it’s never personal because it’s understood nothing happens to a “you” it just happens. The timeless, ageless, view of being of the world and not in it, can only occur in the present and this is where all of life truly occurs, it’s never personal though, it’s just life. Learning to change the view to one of living with what’s given allows for the freedom to be of the world and not in it. The needed change is to see the world through an inner view of love, which is of the heart, instead of the outer view through the senses, which is of the Conditioned Mind. When there is no longer attachment to the Conditioned Mind, one can be of the world and not in it. This is one’s true freedom, to live with what’s given in life so one can be of the world and not in it.
